WHITE ROSE II
The light is within.
This series is an ode to the photogram, a method of printing in a darkroom without using a negative - bypassing the photographic process and essentially, playing with the Rose and her shadows. The result reminds me of an x-ray, where the light passes through her petals, inverting her shadow, encapsulating her while illuminating her petals.
This series is a metaphorical extension of the idea of the girl who is lost in the dark. Remember, the light is within. The theme is integral in my work, but here, I've taken an abstract turn with it to produce these camera less prints, using my favorite paper, producing the blackest black and the creamiest white.
White Rose II is a visual representation of forbidden lovers. The white border and the frames they each sit in separate them.
Normally, my roses are completely dry. This was the first time I incorporated them in my work without waiting for them to get crunchy. As a result, the tonality is super soft and continuous; and where the light penetrates through the petals, the shadows appears smooth.
The roses, pink, were almost dead.
You can feel their life.
